Places To Visit on Weekends @ TCS ILP Trivandrum

Hi friends,  Here are some weekend trip suggestions based on my TCS ILP experience:

1. Kovallam Beach : This place is best for 1st weekend. You can get a direct public bus from TCS office (Technopark). It will take around 60-70 minutes to reach there.

2. Ponmudi Hill Station : Ponmudi is little bit far from TCS officePonmudi is a hill station. So you can't take public transport, You have to book a bus and the trip will take whole day. The place is awesome and a highly recommended tourist place.
Ponmudi Hills
3. Verkala Cliff Beach: You can take public transport. This place is around 36 km from TCS office. Place is awesome, also called as Mini Goa. Book a hotel, stay there at night, Sea looks great at full moon from the cliff. Our learning group visited Verkala total six times during our ILP. Best place to celebrate Christmas, new year.
Our Learning Group (Sea food was awesome)

4. Munnar : You may need an extended weekend to visit Munnar. It takes 9 to 10 hours journey from TCS office (Technopark). You need to book a bus. Munnar trip will be most costly trip of all, so plan this after getting salary. You will get there hand made chocolates. Also be aware of leeches, there are lot of leeches in hilly areas. At our Munnar trip, me and my roommate were the victims of leeches. So don't forget to wear shoes while visiting hilly areas.

5. Sri Padmnatham Swami Temple : This temple is 17 km from TCS office (Technopark). Awesome place, you have to wear 'Lungi' only to enter the temple premises. Be prepare for that in advance. You can take 'Lingi' for rent outside the temple. There is a museum near the temple.

Apart from these places you can also visit Kanyakumari, Rameshwaram, Pover beach, Allapy.

If you find this useful then kindly share this information with your TCS ILP mates. Thanks! Have Fun :)

Food @ TCS ILP Trivandrum

North Indian people, who are going to attend their Initial Learning Program (ILP) at Trivandrum need not to worry about food. There are lots of options for north Indian food, you do not have to eat south Indian food all the time. Before going to attend my ILP there, I also afraid about food. But don't worry. Here are some food outlet details surrounding the learning center and hostels at TCS ILP Trivandrum:

1. Sharma Dhaba : It is located outside the TCS office gate. Sharma Dhaba is best for north Indian food, but you have to wait for a quite long for your order because of huge crowd at peak hours.

2. Tasty Land : It has two branches - One is located outside the TCS gate and second is located near Scarlet Circle hostel.

3. Near CLC Building : If you want to eat pizzas and burgers, then there is a food court in Tezaswani building at 7th floor. There you can get Domino's and other food chain outlets. This building is located near to TCS CLC building.

4. Other Small Outlets : There are 4-5 other veg and non veg small small vendors who provide north Indian food.

5. TCS Canteen : At last if you don't want to face crowd, you should go to office canteen. Food is not so good there as per my experience, but you can find decent food. Less options for north Indians in canteen menu.

Accommodation @ TCS ILP Trivandrum

Hi friends, congratulations for your selection in Tata Consultancy Services. I have been there at Trivandrum from Oct 2014 to Jan 2015 for my Initial Learning Program. I am sharing some information about accommodation based on my experiences. Accommodation provided by TCS at Trivandrum location is very nice, we can say it is like a 1 star hotel except 1-2 locations. There are 4-5 hostels in which they provide accommodation. You will not able to choose the hostel, they will assign you one week prior to your joining date. You can report there 2 days before your joining date. Following are the details of hostels provided by TCS ILP Trivandrum:

1. TCS Peepal Park Hostel : This is the best hostel in terms of distance from TCS training center. But there are some restrictions as it is located inside the training center's campus. You have to carry your ID card with you all the times whenever you go out, even for lunch and dinner on weekends. No worries about food. You can eat in office canteen. Also 3-4 north Indian restaurants are there. 'Sharma Dhaba' provides best north Indian food among them.

2. TCS Executive Hostel : This hostel is situated outside the campus, but very near to training center. Around 500 meters from office. Facilities are better here. There was a 'maggie station' beside the hostel, there you can get noodles, milk shakes, cold coffee etc. North Indian food installs are also not so far from this hostel, located around 500 meters. Also you can go to training center's canteen.

3. Scarlet Circle : This is a huge residential building. You will get 2 and 3 BHK apartments. 2 BHK for 4 persons and 3 BHK for 6 persons. This hostel is very very far from campus, around 6-7 km. TCS provides bus facility for conveyance. If you miss that bus auto rickshaw will charge 120 to 150 rupees depends on your bargaining skills. Again no worries about food. There are lot of options outside the building.

Facilities provided by TCS at hostel   : TV, Water Purifier, Cleaning on alternate days
Facilities not provided by TCS            : Food, Cloth Ironing, Internet

I got this Scarlet Circle hostel for accommodation during my ILP. Here are some pics of my room

4. TCS Sweet Homes : This hostel is situated near to office around 800 meters. This hostel was actually a bungalow, TCS rented that bungalow and allotted the rooms as hostel. For food, the best north Indian outlet 'Sharma Dhaba' is very near from this location.

If you find this information useful, kindly share with your friends. Have fun at Trivandrum.
